Tran, Mr. Van

Mr. Binh Van Tran passed away suddenly early Friday morning, April 20, 2018. We are deeply saddened by this great loss, but we find peace and comfort in the hope that he has reunited with his beautiful wife, whom he loved and has missed dearly since her passing. Binh immigrated to the United States in 1985 from Soc Trang, Vietnam. Never afraid of hard work, Binh worked 2-3 jobs during his first years in the United States. He worked at Principal Financial Group in downtown Des Moines for over 17 years. After which he opened China Star restaurant in Windsor Heights and operated it with his wife, Mai, for 11 years. During his much-deserved retirement, Binh enjoyed visiting with his close friends, going fishing, visiting his sons in Texas, and most of all, caring for and playing with his two grandsons who adored him. The family will gather to greet friends at Dunn's Chapel in Des Moines on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 1 - 3 pm. Cremation rites will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made out to the Temple of Tu Vien Hong Duc (Vietnamese Buddhist Temple).
