.Florence Inez Martin, 99, of Mt. Pleasant, died Friday, May 4, 2018 at New London Specialty Care. She was born November 28, 1918 in Lowell, the daughter of William Lee and Laura Veronica Thornburg Pickle, the oldest of 12 children. She attended Bethany Country School. On February 26, 1938, she married George William Martin in Mt. Pleasant. He died November 5, 2005. Florence was a homemaker and farm wife, and was a wonderful cook who loved gardening and flowers, playing cards, and camping. She volunteered with Farm Bureau and 4-H. She received ribbons at the county fair in flowers, food, and embroidery, and also won a milk maid contest. She is survived by two sons, Garrel (Joyce) Martin and William (Janet) Martin, both of New London; two daughters, Rosalie Cochran, of Fairfield, and Janice (J.C.) Canaday, of Thornville, Ohio; 11 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great-grandchildren; five sisters, Jean Tebbs, of Mt. Pleasant, Karen Putnam, Mary Gohr, and Marge Foster, all of Burlington, Gwen Lear, of Tallahassee, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. rothy, and Hazel; and son-in-law, Roger Cochran. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM, Tuesday, May 8 at Elliott Chapel, New London with Rev. Troy Weigert officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Mt. Pleasant. Visitation will begin at noon Monday, May 7 with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Memorials have been established to Great River Hospice and the New London Specialty Care Activity Fund.
