Thomas F. McGuire

Thomas Francis McGuire, 78, of Lake In The Hills, IL died Friday, May 11th 2018 at JourneyCare Hospice in Barrington, IL. He passed in the presence of his family, surrounded with love. Thomas or "Tom", as he preferred, was born July 6, 1939, in Bancroft, to Charles W. and Charlotte (Hood) McGuire. He was raised on a farm near Bancroft and spent his childhood playing baseball and visiting with his beloved Aunt Inez Hood. He graduated from St. John's Catholic High school in 1957, and then served his country in the United States Naval Construction Force, also known as the Seabees. After completing his military service, he returned to the Bancroft area and purchased a small farm which he soon sold to start a trucking company that he owned for many years. Tom was united in marriage to Cheryl Ann Olson on June 5, 1971, in Fairmont, MN, where they resided for several years and started a family before moving to the Omaha, NE area, and purchasing a 10 acre farm. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his brothers and sisters, his wife, his children and his grandchildren. Tom is survived by his wife of 47 years, Cheryl of Lake In The Hills, IL; his six children, Matt and his wife Maria of Barrington, IL, Laurie of Providence, RI, Sarah of Brentwood, CA, Susan and her husband John of Tucson, AZ, Johanna of Brentwood, CA and Andrew and his wife Corrie of Chandler, AZ; ten grandchildren, Kaishon Xavier, Armon, Jaiden, Devon, Miles, Talon, John, Catherine, Addison and Brynlee; brothers and sisters, Bill and his wife Ann of Green Valley, AZ, Ann Degen of Bancroft, Mary Faith Schiltz and her husband Don of Estherville, Martin of Algona, Joe and his wife Carolyn of State Center and Kristi Brandenburg of Armstrong; his sister-in-law Mary Jensen and her husband Kenny of Mankato, MN and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Patricia Colleen in infancy; his brothers, John and Ed; his aunt, Inez Hood; brother-in-laws, Steven Brandenburg and Don Degen; sister-in-law, Barbara; nephews, Charlie McGuire and Dan Jensen and great niece, Morgan.
