then on to Cedar Rapids where Don began a long and successful career as a swine consultant for Carl Akey & Sons. Don married Joyce Nelson on August 4, 1973. Don & Joyce moved to Indiana and then Ohio as he continued his long-term association with Carl Akey & Sons. Retirement brought Don & Joyce back to the Amanas and then Iowa City in 1979. Don & Joyce were avid fans of the Iowa Hawkeye sports teams and were Men's & Women's season ticket holders for basketball & football for decades. They were long-term members of the I-Club. Don rarely missed the weekly Quarter Back Club meetings. They also enjoyed trips to Alaska and trips to see relatives and friends throughout the United States until Joyce passed away on January 7, 2016 in Iowa City. Don often played golf in Iowa City with friends and was always available to play billiards during his time at Melrose Meadows. The family wishes to thank the staff and residents at Melrose Meadows, The University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics, and Windmill Manor in Iowa City, IA. We are also grateful to Legend Oaks and Bristow Hospice staff for their assistance during the final days of our Father's life.
