Catherine Squires

Catherine Ann " Kitty" Squires, 91 of Winona, died Saturday, June 9, 2018 at Lake Winona Manor. Kitty was born September 29, 1926 in Winona to Otto and Katarina "Katie" (Obermeyer) Hoermann. On December 20, 1947, Kitty married Budd G. Squires at St. Matthews Church. Together they built their home on Gilmore Avenue where Kitty lived for 70 years. She grew up as an only child but married into a large family, whom she became close with. She was very proud of her German heritage and would visit friends and relatives in Germany and loved speaking and being German. She would often cook a German meal for her family. She was strong in her Catholic faith. Her prayer book and rosary were always close by. She prayed for each of her family members every day and no one left her house without being blessed with holy water. Her true passion in life was being a wife, mother and grandmother. Kitty enjoyed reading, cooking, swimming, travel and playing cards with her longtime card club. She also loved animals - especially dogs, cats and birds. She was preceded in death by her husband, Budd and grandson, Christopher Squires. Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m., Thursday, June 14, 2018 at St. Mary's Catholic Church with the Reverend James Berning officiating. Visitation will be 10 a.m., until the time of the service in the Visitation Commons at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Private family burial will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery.
