On June 16, 2018, Roy Gunnar Skoglund, Sr. went to be at peace with his Savior at the VA Central Iowa Health Care System in Des Moines, IA, shortly after his beloved Chicago Cubs beat the St. Louis Cardinals. Private family services will be held at a later date, along with a private family inurnment in the Iowa Veteran's Cemetery in Van Meter, IA. He was born on October 10, 1932, in Grovertown, IN, the son of Gustav and Maria (Hedlund) Skoglund. Roy was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a great man. Roy was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He built and ran two successful businesses: Royal Masonry and ReGiS Courier. But for all his success, kindness was his greatest asset. Roy treated everyone he met with dignity, respect, and kindness. And a joke. Always a joke. In fact, long before 'Dad Jokes' became a thing, Dad - or Papa - mastered the art.
