lly founded by his grandfather. Joe eventually assumed ownership of this legacy operation and impressively guided the company through its most successful years. Joe had a passion for adventure and outdoor activity. Embracing camping at an early age, he spent his summers at a camp in Wisconsin as both a camper and a counselor in his youth and then as a parent with his young family. Sending them to a camp as well as taking them on canoe trips in Canada and skiing in Colorado, Joe shared his zeal for the outdoors with his children, who in-turn have instilled that joy in his grandchildren. Joe loved to travel, counting the Maasai Mara of Kenya, Beijing, Rome, Alaska, & coastal Maine among his cherished trips. He maintained an annual tradition well into his 80's traveling with family and friends to ski the mountains of Colorado and New Mexico. One of his greatest thrills came when helicopter skiing with his best friend in the backcountry mountains of British Columbia while in his early 70's. Joe was a resolute golfer banging away at the links up into the final year of his life. Perhaps most of all, Joe was an avid fisherman who fly fished Alaska and the flats of the Caribbean, spin cast for trophy pike in Manitoba, and trolled for marlin and sailfish in the depths off the Florida coast. He embraced life to its fullest and never gave up serving the needs of his family even when hit with the crippling challenges of devastating losses. Joe was preceded in death by his sons, Joe (Buzzy) and John Borinstein; his sister, Roseann Cohen; daughter-in-law, Lisa Borinstein; grandchildren, Luke & Emma Borinstein. He is survived by his wife Wilma, his wife of 20 years, and children Cathy Borinstein, Bill Borinstein (Pam), Bob Borinstein (Jeanne); step-children, Patrick Craine (Karen), Jackie Craine, Melissa Craine, Heather Jenkins (John). He was blessed with 17 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. A private service will be held on Saturday, July 7th. A public reception afterwards will be held to celebrate Joe's life for those wishing to pay their respects between 4:00 and 6:00 pm at Athens Restaurant located at 2284 W. 86th Street. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or to the charity of your choice.
