Kevin Robert Powers

Kevin Robert Powers, 61, of Waterloo, died Sunday, June 17, 2018. He was born April 6, 1957 in San Diego, CA, the son of John "Jack" Powers and Colleen White Powers. Kevin graduated from Columbus High School in 1975. He joined the U.S. Navy in 1976, serving aboard the USS Coral Sea as a Quarter Master, achieving the rank of E5 after one year and 11 months of service; he sailed two West PAC cruises and was honorably discharged in 1980. He attended Hawkeye Community College and the University of Northern Iowa. He was a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service until 2014 and was past president of the local National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC), serving as a strong advocate for its members and the rights of labor. Kevin loved his dad and held a great admiration for him, raising four sons as a single father, always instilling the importance of family, friends, and country. Their family life included loading up the camping gear and traveling for vacations.
