Donald Doering

Donald J. Doering, 71, of Waterloo, died Saturday, June 30, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born January 2, 1947 in Waterloo, son of Harry "Jim" and Mary James Doering. He married Dianne Burroughs on December 29, 1972 in Waterloo. Don graduated from Waterloo West High School in 1965. He was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps, serving from 1965 to 1969. He was employed with John Deere Waterloo Tractor Works for 30 years, retiring in 1999. Survivors include: his wife, Dianne; a son, Shawn Doering of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter, Michelle (Jeff) Mapes of Santa Clarita, California; "other son", Chris Wion of Des Moines; two grandchildren, Stella and Charlie Mapes; two brothers, Steven (Mary) Doering of Waterloo and Jon (Laura) Doering of Ankeny; four sisters, Jeanne (Ron) Nesbit of Clive, Mary (Russ) Kinkaid of Shell Rock, Cathy (Tim) Hartz of Cedar Falls and Tamie (Mike) Hattan of Parrish, Florida; and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by: his parents; an infant sister, Patty; and a brother, Michael. ary rites will be conducted by Evansdale Amvets Post 31, Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and the U. S. Marine Corps Honor Guard. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and at the church for an hour before services on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to: Cedar Valley Hospice. Don and Dianne enjoyed spending their winters in Arizona. He was proud of his service in the Marine Corps and his two tours to Viet Nam.
