Esther Mae VanAlstyne, 85, a lifelong Columbia County resident, passed away on Saturday, July 7, 2018 at the Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck, NY.
Born on February 11, 1933, in Hudson, NY, she was the daughter of the late Lester and Catherine E. (Burke) Dutcher.
For many years, Esther worked as a Supervisor with the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles based in Albany, NY.
Esther was predeceased by both her husbands, Edward F. Hermance and William VanAlstyne Sr.; along with two sons, Vincent (Buddy) Hermance, and Daniel Hermance; a sister, Helen Dutcher; a brother, Royce Dutcher; and a half-brother, Walt Dutcher.
She is survived by a sister, Clara Rochester, and a brother Daniel Dutcher. She is also survived by her loving children, Margaret "Peg" Mead of Chatham, NY; Michael (Alexis) Hermance of Murphy, NC; Joshua (Kathy) Hermance of Rotterdam, NY; Edward (Caroline Borden) Hermance of Cohoes, NY; Catherine "Kate" Hermance of Chatham, NY; Molly Coons of Crystal Lake, IL; Patrick (Angie) Hermance of Fairmont, WV; William (Betsy) VanAlstyne, Jr. ...[more]
Chatham, NY; and Lora (Marion) Gaymon of Schenectady, NY; along with twenty-six grandchildren; twenty-five great grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.
A Memorial/Celebration of Life service will be held at the Ghent VFW, Ghent NY on July 22, 2018 at 3:00 pm.
