William B. McAuliffe, Jr.

William B. McAuliffe Jr, 91, of Blue Bell, formerly of Ambler, passed away on Tuesday, August 21, 2018 at Abington Hospital after a short illness. He was the son of the late William B. and Marguerite (Bittner) McAuliffe Sr. Born on February 27, 1927 and raised in Philadelphia, Bill attended LaSalle College High School Class of 1945. Upon graduation he was drafted into the US Army and after completing Officer Candidate School was stationed in Germany at the end of World War II. After completing his military service, Bill enlisted in the Army National Guard and served for 20 years, retiring in 1968 as with the rank of Major. Bill was the founder and owner of McAuliffe and Sons, Architectural Hardware Consultants and Wholesale Hardware Distributor, until his retirement in 1999. In addition to running a business and raising his family, Bill was active in the community. member of the Rotary Club of Ambler. One of his favorite projects was restoring the Thomas Livezey House and Store in Plymouth Meeting. In addition to his parents, Bill was predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law, John (Jack) and Marie McAuliffe, daughter-in-law Veronica, and grandchild, Brittany. Bill is survived by his beloved wife Mary Elizabeth ( Donohoe), with whom he shared 69 years of Marriage, his sister Peggy (Joe) Mackle, sister-in-law Alice (Jay) Smith, brother-in-law Don (Jane) Keiser, brother-in-law Joe (Vera) Donohoe, eight children: Elizabeth 'Beth' (Harry) Burton, Oakton, VA, Bill III(Linda), Lansdale, PA; Michael (late Veronica), Dublin, Ireland; J. Patrick (Annie Axtmayer), Worcester, PA; Thomas (Marisa), Dresher, PA; Richard (Sue), Jeffersonville, PA; Colleen (Ron) Flynn, Tucson, AR; and Maureen (Phil) Cannon, Georgetown, MA, 23 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 28th from 6pm - 8pm at the Anton Urban Funeral Home, 1111 South Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, PA. On Wednesday, August 29th, Visitation 9:30am to 11:00am at St. Helena' Roman Catholic Church, 1489 DeKalb Pike, Blue Bell, PA, followed by his Funeral Mass. Interment will be private.
