Verna Hulda Marie Mahncke

Verna Hulda Marie (Rodemeyer) Mahncke, 99, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at Mercy Medical Center - North Iowa in Mason City. She was born September 6, 1918, on the family farm in Hamilton Township to Ernest D. Rodemeyer and Amanda (Rathmann) Rodemeyer. Verna was baptized on October 6, 1918, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer, by Rev. Robert H. Beer. Her baptismal sponsors were Verna (Rathmann) Borcherding and Lena (Rodemeyer) Jensen. On June 5, 1932, Verna was confirmed at St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. E. H. Grummer. Her confirmation verse was Psalm 37:4 (Delight thyself in the Lord; and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart). Verna attended East Ward country school and later attended St. Paul's Lutheran School in Latimer. On January 17, 1952, Verna married Robert F. Mahncke. They have one son Lynn. During World War II, Verna combed hemp at the hemp plant in Hampton. Later, she worked at the Marshall Canning plant in Hampton. Verna worked for Northrup King Seed for a period of time in the fall working on the sorting table out in the fields. 3. Verna enjoyed gardening, baking, crocheting and many other crafts. She was a lifelong member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Latimer. Verna is survived by her son Lynn Mahncke of Marshalltown, brother Marvin W. Rodemeyer and sister-in-law Patricia (Stackhouse) Rodemeyer of Hampton, and sister-in-law Marie (Paullus) Rodemeyer of Hampton. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert; parents Ernest and Amanda; sister Marlys Rodemeyer; brother Arnold Rodemeyer and sister-in-law Marian (Nolte) Rodemeyer; brother Dale Rodemeyer and sister-in-law Edna (Depping) Rodemeyer and a brother in infancy, Wilber Rodemeyer.
