Gino Antonio Gregorio
Gino Di Gregorio passed away on August 27, 2018 in Wappingers Falls, NY. The son of Antonio Di Gregorio and Maria Santilli, Gino was born November 6, 1921. He attended St. Mary's School and graduated from Wappingers Central School.
He worked with his father part time in the meat and grocery business. Gino has always had a flair for machine shop and tooling work. He left the meat and grocery business for a job in the Dutchess Tool Company in 1942 in Beacon, NY, working in the tool room, 3rd shift.
In May 1943 he entered the military service with the United States Navy. He served with the Amphibious Forces and underwater demolition and was discharged in 1946 as a Boatswain's Mate, 2nd class. Gino pursued his ambition for tooling and worked in many jobbing shops.
Gino was hired by IBM in April 1951 as a lead man on 3rd shift and 3 years later worked days in model shop D/066 as a model maker. He transferred to the tool room in 1954 where he built the first Fine Flow Die in IBM Poughkeepsie. In 1965, Gino was promoted to manufacturing engineer, 2nd shift. TSA Build. Gino was promoted to Technical Associate at this time. In 1974, he was assigned to help with tooling on the low end TSR Build in Kingston and remained there for 1 year. In 1975, Gino was assigned to head the transfer of the 2880 Multiplex Channel from Kingston to Poughkeepsie. Gino designed and built the tool to fold the Tefzel cable.
Two years later Gino started to support IBM Brooklyn in Main Frame Build and other tooling aspects. This continued for approximately 8 years. In 1980, Gino went to work in IBM, Montpellier, France to help release the engineering portion of the 3814 computer. This lasted until April 1981. He made many friends while there. In 1983 Gino was appointed Senior Associate. In 1984 he transferred to IBM Boardman Road Lab to develop and design tooling as required. Gino retired in 1987.
Some of Gino's activities/achievements include:
American Legion Post #427 Adjutant 1946-1947, Vice Commander 1953, and at his death served 66 years as a member;
NY State Youth Corp (Co-Chairman) established Fresh Air Camps 1950;
Conducted and directed the "Queen City" Band (Formally the IBM Band) 1959-1961;
A member of the 40/8 Honor Society of American veterans, Voiture 502, for over 25 years holding the offices of Voyageur Militaire, Conducteur, Chef de Train, Chef de Gare and Aumonier;
Elected Director of the IBM Club and helped bring and establish the IBM Credit Union in 1963 in which he continuously held a committee member's position;
Canvasser of yearly drives for United Way Bond and Blood drives, to which Gino donated 20 gallons of blood over the years;
Elected Secretary, business representative of the Professional Musicians of Dutchess County for 23 years; Gino could be seen several nights of the week corroborating band contracts throughout Dutchess County;
Elected President of the IBM Quarter Century Club; Chairman of the nominating committee for many years. Gino is responsible for the Quarter Century emblem that you see on badges throughout all the IBM plants;
Senior member of the Italian Center; 4th degree Knight of Columbus and Color Corps;
Member of the Hudson Valley Radio Control Society for Airplanes;
He was fond of horses and rode many during his lifetime.
Gino was a family man. On May 1st 1949, Gino married Rose DeLarose of Newburgh, NY. Rose predeceased Gino in May 2008 after 59 beautiful years of marriage. He is also predeceased by his brother Nino and sister Olga and survived by his younger sister Virginia. He has four daughters Katrina and her husband John, Dr. Maria Di Gregorio and her husband Dr Joseph McCann, Dr Gina Di Gregorio and her husband Dr Yasuto Taguchi, and Lisa Di Gregorio, computer programmer, and her husband Ron Kiedaisch. He has 11 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, September 1st 10:00am at St. Mary's Church in Wappingers Falls, NY,
Burial with military honors will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Wappingers Falls, NY.
