Family, friends and fun was what Barb Schultz was all about! She was selfless, generous, loyal, caring and a hard worker. Her family meant everything to her and she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. She enjoyed socializing and always welcomed time spent with her friends and having a great time. With tens of thousands of people traveling the road and rail in America looking for work and twenty five percent of the population on unemployment, 1933 was the worst year of the depression. The film King Kong premiered and Shirley Temple signed a contract with Fox at the age of 5. The World's Fair opened in Chicago, the first drive in theater opened, the first "spotting" of the Loch Ness Monster was reported and the popular board game Monopoly was invented. The same year Hollis J. and Margaret (Fewell) Windenburg found out they would be having a child and on September 8, 1933 they welcomed Barbara J. into their hearts and home in Lamont, Iowa. her farm machinery. In her free time, she enjoyed riding her horse and while attending Maynard High School she was a cheerleader. In her sophomore year she started talking to a classmate and that would change the course of her life forever. Paul Schultz would start dating Barb and the couple would become the Homecoming Queen and King. They graduated together with the Class of 1951 and were married November 2, 1952 in Westgate, Iowa by Paul's father, Rev. Otto C. Schultz, a Missouri Synod Lutheran Pastor. Barb and Paul expanded their family to having three children, Deb, Jim and Connie. In 1965 the family moved to Janesville, Wisconsin after Paul took a job with General Motors. Aside from being a wife and mother, Barb took a job with Panoramic for 17 years and bartended additional 17 years at a few area taverns including Steve's Bar & Grill and retired from Lan & Bon's Tombstone III. Barb enjoyed traveling to places like Las Vegas, Florida, California and Tennessee. She loved country western music and watching Charlie Pride perform. In her free time, fishing, boating, bowling and "Turtle Hunting" were amongst her favorite activities. Always enjoying the company of her family and friends, Barb liked socializing and having people come together for parties. In 2015 Barb and Paul made the decision to move closer to her children that lived in Indiana and moved to Columbia City, Indiana where they became members of St. Michael Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne. Life would forever change for her family when she passed away at the age of 85 at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, September 14, 2018 at Parkview Whitley Hospital. She is survived by her loving husband, Paul Schultz; children, Deb (Butch) Hilt, of Fort Wayne, Indiana Jim (Kathy) Schultz, of Janesville, Wisconsin and Connie (Jeff ) Hanson, of Columbia City, Indiana; sister, Bev (Ronnie) Seegers, of Oelwein, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Max Schultz, of Manchester, Iowa and Georgia Windenburg, of Marion, Iowa; grandchildren, Aaron (Heather) Hilt, Todd (Alvin Dela Cruz) Hilt, Christine, Schultz, Amy (Kyle) Usher, Jackie (Jesse) Marden, Jason (Cyndi) Hanson, Hannah (Mike) Pakes, Seth Hanson, Cassie (Caleb) Benson and Ally (Scott) Stoffel; 13 great-grandchildren and expecting one more soon. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Wayne, Keith and Paul Windenburg; and a great-granddaughter, Summer Hilt. A memorial gathering will take place Wednesday, September 19, 2018 from 11:30-1 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes, a Life Story Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Her memorial service will begin at 1 p.m. with Pastor Don Sandmann of St. Michael Lutheran Church officiating.
