Dr. Joseph W. Shoemaker

Dr. Joseph William Shoemaker, DDS, 83, of Carmel, departed this life on Wednesday, October 3, 2018. Joe was born on December 2, 1934 in Marion, IN to the late Joseph Francis and Marie (Geske) Shoemaker. He received a degree in engineering from Purdue University and then earned his DDS from the Indiana University School of Dentistry. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force Reserves. Dr. Shoemaker began his dental practice in 1964 providing many years of meticulous care for his patients before retiring in 2012. He was a member of the American Dental Association and was recognized as a Fifty Year member of the Indiana Dental Association in 2014. Joe was also a member of the Scottish Rite Cathedral and the Carmel Christian Church. After growing up on a farm in Middletown, IN, he had a special appreciation for all things related to the natural world and was especially fond of bird watching. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Eleanor Louise Shoemaker.
