Elizabeth Lynn Melanson, 49, of Stone Ridge, NY, formerly of New Paltz, died on Friday, October 5, 2018 at Vassar Brothers Medical Center in Poughkeepsie. She was born June 11, 1969 in New Rochelle, NY, the daughter of Roy J. and Margaret (Ploughman) Larson of New Paltz. She married Thomas J. Melanson on May 10, 1997 in Atlanta, GA.

Beth was a graduate of Colgate University in Hamilton, NY and Emory Law School in Atlanta, GA, where she earned her law degree. She had been an attorney with Feldman, Kleidman & Coffey in Fishkill, NY until her illness in 2009. During her law career, it was very important to her to protect the rights of children. She was Chief Assistant District Attorney and then appointed District Attorney in Dallas, GA. She was a former member of the New York State Bar Association.

She loved spending time with her children and hiking and doing puzzles with them.

Melanson both of Stone Ridge, NY and one son: Patrick Melanson of Annapolis, MD; two sisters: Cecilia Larson of Wellesley, MA and Mary (Paul) Strothenke of New Paltz, NY, one brother: Roy (Ali) Larson of Miami, FL; several cousins and nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 1-4 pm at Copeland Funeral Home, 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, October 8, 2018 at 10 am at St. Joseph's Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, followed by burial at New Paltz Rural Cemetery.
