John H. Hain, Sr., age 90, of Wallkill, NY, died Sunday, October 21, 2018 at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital, Newburgh. He was born December 22, 1927 in Astoria, Queens, NY, the son of the late Henry Andrew and Margaret Elizabeth (Reardon) Hain. On July 4, 1952, he married Irmgard Elizabeth Henning. Elizabeth predeceased him on December 2, 2014.

John was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

John was a graduate of Fordham University with a B.S. and M.A. in History and a graduate of Columbia University where he earned his Ed.D. In Secondary Education.

He was a Professor of Secondary Education at SUNY At New Paltz, where he worked from September 1, 1962 until August, 1997. He then was an adjunct professor until May, 1998. He was a Delegate for U.U.P. (United University Professors) and a member of NYSUT.

Surviving are three daughters: Karen Psilopoulos of Gardiner, NY, Marcella A. Hain and John Conway of Basking Ridge, NJ and Maryann and Shawn McGrath of Columbus, OH, and two sons: John H. and Bonnie Hain, Jr., of Woodstock, MD and Andrew J. Hain of Painted Post, NY and the late Holly Hain, who died in 2010; nine grandchildren, John Henry Hain, III, Ethan Hain, Amber Hain, Trisston Conway, Carollyne Conway, Marlowe Conway, John Robert (Jack) McGrath, McKenzie McGrath and Andie John Psilopoulos.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, October 25, 2018 from 5pm-8pm at Copeland Funeral Home, Inc., 162 South Putt Corners Road, New Paltz, NY. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 26, 2018 at 10:00 am at St. Joseph's Church, 34 South Chestnut Street, New Paltz, NY followed by burial at Bruynswick Rural Cemetery, Wallkill, NY.
