Harris W Hudson

Harris Whitfield Hudson, known to all as "Whit", was born on October 1st, 1942 in Jackson, Tennessee to Samuel and Minnie Hudson. At age 10, the Hudson family moved to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. Whit graduated from Fort Lauderdale High School and joined the Army Reserves. He married his high school sweetheart Bonnie Huizenga had two children, Steve and Holly. He spent most of his professional career in the waste business, starting with Southern Sanitation working with his brother-in-law, Wayne Huizenga. He left Waste Management to start Hudson Management Corp which grew to the largest private waste hauler in central and south Florida. The company was merged with Republic Industries where Whit and Wayne teamed up again to consolidate the waste business. Never fully retiring, he and son Steve worked side by side since 1997 in many different ventures at Hudson Capital Group. Whit was a true sportsman and loved the outdoors, hunting and fishing were his passion. His most recent endeavor was Quail Creek Plantation in Okeechobee, Florida. Whit is survived by his son Steve, daughter-in-law Jeannie, daughter Holly, son-in-law Scott; his 5 grandchildren: Griffin, Tyler, Whit, Kelsey and Paige; wife Gwen and her two sons Jason and Mike. There will be a memorial service at First Baptist Church in Fort Lauderdale on Wednesday, November 28 at 10:00am, immediately followed by a gathering in the fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Nova Southeastern University H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship Scholarship Fund, American Heart Association of South Florida and Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.
