Howard E. Evans, Jr, age 81, passed away the morning of November 21, 2018 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. He was born January 4, 1937 in Gloucester, MA, the son of Howard E. Evans and Eleanor Carroll. He attended Gloucester High School where he played in the Gloucester High ROTC band, and marched in Dwight D. Eisenhower's inaugural parade in 1953. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the US Army and served in Alaska Territory. After 5 years in the Army, he enrolled at Boston College, then joined the US Air Force where he served for 21 years as a Navigator/Bombardier, serving in Vietnam out of Guam and the Philippines, as well as on SAC assignment from many bases in the US and Europe. In 1960 he married Loretta Hobbs at St. Joachim Catholic Church in Rockport, MA, and together they raised four children - Brian (Laurey), Bruce (Laura), Heidi Driscoll (John), and Kenneth (JoAnn) - who traveled and grew up with them in various Air Force stations. He retired from Ramstein AFB in Germany in 1980 and returned with his family to Rockport where he lived until his wife's death in 2000. Pittsburgh PA on 01/02/03 and spent 16 happy years together, traveling extensively at home and abroad. In 2012 they toured the USA by motorhome, logging over 10,500 miles. One of Howie's favorite activities was attending Air Force reunions of his beloved 100th Bomb Wing, and touring military bases, National Parks and Monuments. He loved cruising, and he and Jayne enjoyed 10 cruises throughout the world. In 2007, they relocated to Fort Lauderdale where they welcomed family and friends for many enjoyable visits. Howard was an avid sports fan (he could spot every foul and block-in-the-back before it was announced,) and was passionate about his New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox. Besides his wife, Jayne, and his children, he is survived by 9 grandchildren: Evan Evans, Jonathan Evans, Joshua Evans, Megan Evans, Julia Evans, Leanne Evans, Heather (Whippie) Palmer, Stephen Whippie, and Rachel Whippie; four great-grandchildren: Hunter Evans, Mason Evans, Mikayla Evans, and Jameson Palmer; two step-daughters: Laura Lawson (Robert) and JoEllen Abrams (John); and 5 step grand-children: Taylor Lawson, Jordan Lawson, Rachel Abrams, John Abrams, and Anton Abrams. Interment with military honors will be on December 15, 2018 at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro DE, followed by a Celebration of Howard's life.
