Kim Massie, 88, of Lyonsville, NY, died on Sunday December 2, 2018 at his home. He was born on April 14,1930 in Lexington, Kentucky and was the son of the late Robert Massie and Molly Hart and the stepson of Jim Todd. Kim married Kate Toda in 1956, and they had a daughter, Pia. After Kate's death, Kim married Lorna Scott in 1965, and they had a daughter, Miranda, and a son, Luke. He attended Peabody Demonstration School in Nashville, Tennessee and Yale University on a scholarship, graduating in 1951 with a degree in English Literature. After a brief time in the military and intelligence services during the Korean War, Kim became a freelance photographer, living in Brooklyn, NY while restoring an old brownstone building. Much of his photographic work focused on outdoor sports, of which he was a keen enthusiast. In addition to stories for Sports Illustrated and SKI Magazine, he shot features for LIFE and LOOK Magazines, among other publications. The family moved upstate in 1973, and Kim became intensively involved in local environmental policy, chairing the Ulster County Environmental Management Council for a number of years. He was an inventive, broad-minded, loving person, well known in the community and dearly missed by his surviving wife Lorna; children Pia, Miranda, and Luke; daughter-in-law Dorcinda Knauth; grandchildren Hart, Otto, Emmeline, and Leander; brothers Bob Massie and Jim Todd Jr.; numerous nieces and nephews; and childhood friend Jack May. Kim was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Molly, his stepfather Jim Todd, his brother Tom Todd, and his first wife Kate.
