gs High School. Larry earned a Masters of Arts in English. After teaching in Excelsior Springs, and then Richmond High School, Larry started with the Council Bluffs Public Schools, first at Thomas Jefferson High School, and later as an English Curriculum Coordinator. Larry's passion for education and student achievement radiated in every conversation, and connection he had with students, parents, and peers. Larry acknowledged the vast impact he could have on both students and teachers by moving to administration. After completing a Specialist in Administration degree from Creighton University, Larry began his service in education as a building principal. Larry would serve as the principal of multiple buildings, Cardinal Spellman, Hill City High School, and Plattsmouth High School. After retirement from public education, Larry worked as an English Instructor at Iowa Western Community College. Larry's greatest teaching role was as a father. His legacy of love and family will proudly be carried forward by his son, Martin Patrick (Nesreen) of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and his daughter, Lara Jennifer (Travis) Cole of Lee's Summit, Missouri. His greatest joy came with being called Papa by his granddaughters, Caroline and Charlotte. Everyone who came into contact with Larry has experienced stories of his beloved twin grandbabies. Larry was a gifted storyteller. From his days as a writer for the Northwest Missourian, to his published novel, Dead at the Desk, and his memoir, To Catch the Snowflakes, Larry told stories that inspired and entertained. The Schulenberg Family is incredibly grateful for the professional and compassionate staff of CHI Mercy Hospital. Larry was preceded in death by his father and mother, Leonard and Frances Schulenberg, and brother-in-law, Phillip Forney.
