Otis James Phillips, 87, of North Port, FL went home to his Lord & Savior on December 15, 2018. He was born January 16, 1931 in Indianapolis, Indianato James Otis Phillips and Eletta Starett Phillips. Raised by his grandfather on his farm, Otis had many siblings. After graduating high school, Otis served in the US Navy then returned to farming. His first marriage was blessed by four children, Kathy (Williams), James, Amy and Jill (Muccio). Later he began his career in insurance where hespent 41 years as an agent and/or manager. He worked in both Indiana and Florida till he retired. In February of 1973, he married Janet Evert "Jan", and they blended their eight children, adding Vickie (Portland), Donna, Sharon and Scott tocomplete the clan. Otis was very proud of all his family and loved spending time with them fishing, going to the beach and sports. In 1975, they moved to Punta Gorda where they lived for 28 years. Otis spent 30 years coaching both Little League and Babe Ruth.He loved young people- ALL people, and was always young at heart himself. rance, Otis workedwith children, doing both after-school and summer programs in Georgia with the "No child left behind" programs of the then President. He was featured in the Atlanta Journal for that work. Otis and Jan were truly a team- working together in insurance, with children and in churches. He will be dearly missed by his soul mate Jan as well as his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, siblings and friends. A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 pm, Saturday January 12, 2019 at the Gulf Coast Assembly of God, 2800 Pan American Blvd, North Port, FL 34287 Flowers, donations to the church are at the discretion of those interested, in memory of Otis. ​
