James Sanders LeGette

James S. LeGette passed away peacefully on February 7, 2019 with his family by his side. He was born on June 27, 1926 in Dillon, SC. He moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1954 where he met Barbara Hoffman whom he married on June 28, 1955. Together they celebrated 63 beautiful years of marriage. Mr. LeGette was a State Champion Typist in high school and excelled in music as a flutist. Upon graduation, he served overseas in the US Army during WWII as primary secretary to the generals. He played in the military band and later in the Fort Lauderdale Orchestra. Mr. LeGette attended the University of South Carolina and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Education. Later, he went on to obtain his Master's degree at FAU. He was a fifth-grade teacher and assistant principal at Stephen Foster Elementary School in Fort Lauderdale until his retirement. He is survived by his wife Barbara, two children, Jimi LeGette of Davie, FL, and Rosemary (Rick) Godwin of Marietta, GA, grandchildren Taylor LeGette, Chase Godwin, Audra Godwin, and faithful dog Petey. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 15 at 6:00 p.m. at Fred Hunter Funeral Home, 718 South Federal Highway in Fort Lauderdale. Funeral services will be on Saturday, February 16 at 1:00 p.m.at First United Methodist Church, 101 S.E. Third Avenue, followed by a Celebration of Life reception in the Fellowship Hall.
