Catherine "Kitty" Crowther
Catherine H. "Kitty" (Pillmear) Crowther, of Boca Raton/Coconut Creek, formerly a longtime resident of Miramar, Florida passed away at her assisted living home on Thursday, February 28, 2019. She was 96 years of age. Born in Fall River, Massachusetts on June 30, 1922, she was one of ten children born to Henry and Grace Jane (Platt) Pillmear. Raised and educated in Fall River, Kitty met the love of her life, Thomas J. Crowther. They were later married on July 7, 1944 in Nashua, New Hampshire and settled in Westport, Massachusetts with their firstborn daughter Cathy Ann. She and her family moved to Miramar, Florida in 1959 where her late husband, Thomas J. Crowther was one of the original founders of the Miramar Police Department and retired years later as a lieutenant. While living in Miramar their second daughter Cheryl Sue was born. Affectionately known as Kitty, she worked as a restaurant manager for 25 years before her retirement. Kitty was respected and loved by all of her co-workers and customers at the Miramar Diner. isiting them yearly. Catherine is survived by her loving daughters, Cathy Ann Crowther and Cheryl Sue Martinez, son-in-law, Louis Martinez and her adored grandson, Kyle Louis Martinez. She's also survived by her very special niece, Cheryl McGill, loving sisters Lena Halliwell and Lorraine Szaro, and many other nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 43 years, Thomas J. Crowther on December 10, 1987, six sisters: Henrietta Chipperfield, Ella Mae Gosson, Lillian Costa, Florence Rezendes, Margaret Carreiro, Barbara Buck and her only brother, Henry (Hank) Pillmear. A private funeral service will be held on Saturday, March 9th at the request of the family. Catherine will be laid to rest next to her husband at Hollywood Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
