Joseph Mueller, 84, of Keokuk, passed away Wednesday night, March 13, 2019, surrounded by family and loved ones. Joseph Mueller was born in Hungary on March 6, 1935, to Frank Sr. and Maria Mueller. He was united in marriage to Becky Lantz, they later divorced. Joseph and family moved to the United States and lived near St. Patrick, MO. They were able to reside in the US and work on a farm through a work visa. Around 1951, Joseph moved to the Keokuk area and began working at St Joseph Hospital. He worked in maintenance and as an orderly at St. Joseph and retired as the first employee to ever work 50 years at the hospital. He was a member of St. Mary's Church which later changed the name to All Saints Catholic Church. Joseph was an avid racing fan and was able to attend the Daytona 500 many times. He really enjoyed watching and attending motorcycle races and followed any racer that came from the Keokuk area throughout their careers. While Joseph was an orderly at the hospital, he would visit and help patients after discharge in their homes. He especially had a soft spot for Veterans and elderly homebound people. eph was a very caring man who was always willing to help people in their time of need. Joseph is survived by 5 children; Maria Hagmeier of Springdale, AK, Mark Mueller of Keokuk, Jan Reece of Springdale, AK, Melinda Castro of Chesapeake, VA, and Mike Mueller of Keokuk, one brother; Frank Mueller of Keokuk, one sister; Liz McAdenia, and one half-brother; Larry Mueller of Canton, MO, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joseph was preceded in death by his parents. Celebration of Life for Joseph will be Tuesday, March 19, at 8 pm at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center, 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk. Visitation will be prior to the celebration of life on Tuesday, March 19, 2019, from 5 to 8 pm at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center, 917 Blondeau Street, Keokuk, IA. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in honor of Joseph Mueller be made to the Mueller family for a project to be determined at a later date.
