y 13, 1968 to serve with the 1st Infantry Division in Vietnam. He received his basic training at Fort Bliss Texas and his AIT at Fort Ord, California. He went to Vietnam on October 6, 1968 until he was wounded on February 6, 1969, for which he received his purple heart. He stayed two weeks at General Hospital in Tokyo, Japan and then he returned to Fitzsimmons Hospital in Denver, Colorado to finish is recovery for 14 months. He was a patriotic man and loved his country and his local American Legion in Fenton, where he served as commander. After the war, Duane received an AA in Agronomy Business Management from GI school to help him with his career of farming the family farm and raising hogs in rural Lone Rock, IA. Seege lived his life to the fullest with a smile and quick wit. He was a man of few words but when he spoke you better listen because you never knew what lesson you may learn from him. This is something we will dearly miss. In his early years, he enjoyed his GTO "the judge" and a few years ago, he found it being restored in Arizona. He later met and married Karen on May 9, 1987. It was at this time, he became an immediate father. He enjoyed his new family and was actively involved in their lives by going to their sporting events and helping with 4-H projects. He could be found many a day enjoying the lovely weather on the golf course with friends and family, driving all around the countryside "checking crops" or attending a farm sale. He was an active member of his church serving as president, elder and many other committees at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Lotts Creek. Duane lived his faith daily in all that he did. He served on many boards and committees in church and the community. Some of his long time commitments were to the Lone Rock Fire and First Responders, Big Six and Stateline Cooperative Elevator Boards, Fenton Township Trustee, North Kossuth Golf Course and Good Samaritan Board of Directors. Left to cherish Duane's memory are his wife Karen, three step children and their spouses Brian (Dena) Bierstedt of Norwalk, Iowa, Adam (Michele) Bierstedt of Littleton, CO and Melissa (Jason) Smith of Truman, MN. He also had five grandchildren whom he adored with all of his heart, Kaleb and Kendal Bierstedt, Kiera Bierstedt, Jayden and Macy Smith. His sisters Karen (Herb) Sayler of Algona, IA and Sandy (Dan) Danielsen of Algona, IA. His nephew and niece Scott and Christina Danielsen, great-nephew Logan and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Fenton American Legion or Kossuth County Hospice of Heartland, in Duane's memory.
