officer. Harold was also involved with the downtown Lions Club and eventually served as president. He was also a member of the American Legion for 45 years and eventually served as commander of his post for several years. Harold's faith in God was a very important part of his life. As a child he attended Olive Branch Christian Church and was baptized there. As an adult, he and the family were members of Southport Baptist Church where Harold served as the church treasurer for several years. Harold retired as a vice president and trust officer of Merchants National Bank in 1989 after working 41 years in the banking industry. Away from work, Harold enjoyed watching the Colts football, gardening, hunting, fishing, traveling to Florida and Hawaii, and spending time with family. Surviving are his two daughters Cindy VanHorn (Larry) and Barbara Read (Scott) both of Noblesville. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Aaron Read (Heather) of Fishers, Jayme VanHorn Boruff (Jason) of McCordsville, Gerry VanHorn (Amy) of West Lafayette, Brad Read (Jena) of Delphi, and Tim Read (Jessie) of Fishers and twelve great-grandchildren. A private funeral service for family members is planned for May 25 with interment in Crown Hill Cemetery.
