r of the St. James Lutheran Church where she was involved in the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, its choir, served on the Altar Guild, and the funeral dinner committee; when living in Taylorville, IL, she was actively involved with Trinity Lutheran Church's LYDA Ladies, a church group known for their beautiful handmade Christmas ornaments. She especially loved her time spent with family, and always enjoyed the annual Bastert Reunions, which were often hosted at Camp Point. She is survived by two daughters: Christine Alger of Quincy, Illinois, and Denise (David) Orr of Goose Creek, South Carolina; a sister, Aleen (Virgil) Mittelberg of Quincy; four grandchildren: Matt (fiancée, Hillary) Alger of Quincy; Melissa (Matthew) Casady of Quincy; Emily (Cory) Hunsley of Edinburg, Illinois; and Ellery Orr of Davenport, Iowa; six great-grandchildren: Amadeus and Gracelyn Alger; Grant Casady; and Ruby, Demry, and Parke Hunsley; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. In addition to her husband, Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, and a son-in-law, Rick Alger. Services: 10:30 AM, Thursday, August 8, 2019, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Marlin Rempfer and Rev. Michael Fieberkorn officiating. Burial will follow at Greenmount Cemetery. Visitation: Will be held prior to the service from 8:30 to 10:30 AM on Thursday August 8, 2019, at St. James Evangelical Lutheran Church.
