George C Buckner

George C. Buckner, 90 of Keokuk died at 2:25 am on April 5, 2011 at Montrose Health Center. He was born on July 18, 1920 a son to Claude & Addie Webster Buckner in Keokuk, IA. George married Rosemary E. Hampton on February 26, 1942 in Kahoka, MO, she survives. He was a lifelong resident of Keokuk. George served in the United States Army in the European Theatre during WWII as a heavy truck driver and medic. He received high marksmanship awards while in the service. He retired from Keokuk Savings Bank. George is survived by his wife Rosemary of Keokuk, to whom he was completely devoted, two daughters: Phyllis Davis and her husband Russell and Joyce Jones and her husband Willie all of Milan, IL; seven grandchildren: Kimberly Jones of Brooklyn Park, MN, R. f Cedar Rapids, IA; many nieces, nephews, and cousins also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter: Ecksteine Carter, five brothers and two sisters. Funeral services will be at 12:00 pm on Friday, April 8, 2011, at DeJong~Greaves Celebration of Life Center on Concert St. with Rev. Debra Letcher officiating. Burial with full Military Rites will be at Keokuk National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 am until the time of service on Friday at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center on Concert Street. Memorials may be made to New Bethel Church.
