Barbara J. Arend

Barbara Jean Arend was born February 18, 1956, at Algona, Iowa, the daughter of Richard and Annette (Simpson) Arend. She was raised on the family farm near Whittemore and attended Algona Community Schools. She was active member of the Lotts Creek Lassies 4-H Club while growing up. Barb graduated from the Algona High School in 1975 and then attended Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg. After graduating from college she returned to Algona and began working at the Good Samaritan Society, where she worked for 34 years. She was very proud of being from Whittemore and loved to attend special events there. Barb was always ready for a shopping trip and enjoyed spending time with her nieces and great-niece and nephew. She was a member of St. Cecelia Parish. Barb passed away on Monday, May 2, 2011, at the Good Samaritan Society ~ Algona, after a short battle with cancer. She was 55. Barb is survived by her mother, Annette Arend; brothers, Nick and wife Deb Arend and Mark Arend all of Algona.
