Clarence E. Adams

Clarence, E. "C.E." Adams, 89, of Keokuk, passed away Sunday, September 29, 2019, surrounded by his loved ones and family. Clarence was born December 28, 1929, in Montrose, Iowa, to Herbert W. and Mary Hazelton Crane Adams. He was united in marriage to Joy Dose in Hernando, Mississippi, on September 6, 1953. She survives. Clarence entered the United States Army after high school and served in the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as a Corporal. After the military, Clarence returned to the Keokuk area where he started working as a welder at Kerr Fabricators and Thomas Truck & Castors. Clarence made foreman early in his career and worked for 31 years. After retirement, he drove for Derr Motors. Clarence was a member of the American Legion Post 41. He and his wife, Joy, traveled throughout the United States in the motorhome. He also enjoyed playing cards, watching Iowa Hawkeye sports, dancing and country music. C.E. enjoyed NASCAR racing, driving fans to races, and also helped local racers with their cars. In his spare time, C.E. enjoyed hanging out at the Collision Center with his buddies. ite thing in life was being with his family. He really enjoyed taking his children and grandchildren camping and traveling. Clarence is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Joy Adams of Keokuk, one daughter; Lisa Adams Carel of Keokuk, 6 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren. Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, one son; Mark Adams, one grandson; Brian Adams, one brother; H. William (Bill) Adams, one sister; June Adams Heitzman and Aunt Ruth Crane. Graveside service will be Thursday, October 3, 2019, 11 am, at Montrose Cemetery with full military rites and Reverend David Turner officiating. Reception will follow services at The Montrose Sandbar, 19 Main Street, Montrose, IA. Memorials may be made in honor of Clarence to Lee County Hospice or the American Kidney Foundation.
