Kenneth "Kenny" J. Shannon

Kenneth "Kenny" Shannon, 94, died peacefully at Riverview Hospital on November 16, 2019. Before that, he spent four happy years in the caring hands of the staff of Sanders Glenn Assisted Living, Westfield, IN. A veteran of World war II, he was a sergeant of the 12th Armored Division, US Army. He was deployed to France, Germany and Austria where he served in the tank division under General George S. Patton, Jr. Kenny was born at home on September 13, 1925 in Anderson, IN to George F. Shannon and Edith (Wilson) Shannon who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his siblings, Maxine (Joe) Armbrust, Norman (Eloise) Shannon, Phyllis Downey and James (Nancy) Shannon. Kenny joined the armed forces and was assigned to Fort McClellan, Anniston, AL for basic training. He was a member of the American Legion, Anderson, IN. He was married in 1955 to the love of his life, Dorothy (Wilcox) Shannon in Indianapolis, IN. They were married 55 years until her death in 2010. Kenny was very mechanical and worked as a machinist at GM-Delco Remy, Anderson, IN for 38 years. He is survived by his twin daughters Paula (Curt) Shannon-Young and Deborah S. (Elmer) Borders. One of Kenny's greatest joys was being "Papaw" to his three grandsons, Blake Borders, Teigen (Alexia Hall) Young and Graden Young who, along with many nieces and nephews, survive him. A private, military service will be held at Crown Hill Cemetery, where he will be inurned in the Field of Valor.
