FORT WORTH-Joe B. Brown, 68, owner, funeral director, embalmer and E.M.T. of Tarrant County's oldest family owned funeral home, passed away Monday, July 3, 2000, at Waco Memorial Park Cemetery doing what he loved the most, conducting a funeral for a friend. Celebration of life: 11 a.m. Friday at Brown, Owens & Brumley Funeral Chapel. Graveside service: 3 p.m. Friday in Perrin Cemetery in Perrin. Family will receive friends from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Joe was born on Jan. 29, 1932, in Mineral Wells to Nathan and Jessie Brown. Joe began his funeral service career in Fort Worth in 1956 as a funeral director and embalmer for Harveson & Cole Funeral Home. In 1963, due to his activity in masonry, he became the personnel director of Robertson Mueller Harper Funeral Directors of Fort Worth. When Mr. E.C. Harper Sr. purchased the Ray Crowder Funeral Home of Fort Worth, he appointed Joe as general manager and funeral director in charge. Joe later ran the funeral home and Ray Crowder Ambulance Service for the City of Fort Worth. mbulance service, Meissner-Brown ran the paramedic emergency service for the cities of Hurst, Euless, Colleyville, Keller, Watauga, Haltom City, Saginaw, Haslet, Blue Mound, River Oaks, Burleson and all of Johnson County. In 1986, the ambulance service was sold to Texas Lifeline, which is now Medstar. In 1988, Joe was able to purchase the oldest family owned funeral home in Fort Worth, Gause-Ware, Owens & Brumley Funeral Home, which is now known as Brown, Owens & Brumley Funeral Directors. Joe was a member of Travis Avenue Baptist Church. He was a past master of Arlington Heights Masonic Lodge and was a member of Panther City Masonic Lodge. He served as district deputy grand master in 1998. He was a past monarch of El Texa Grotto and secretary of the Board of Trustees for the Humanitarian Foundation, Grottos of North America for 18 years. He was a senior DeMolay and a recipient of the DeMolay Legion of Honor, a member of Fort Worth Scottish Rite as a 32nd Degree KCCH, was a board chairman of the Fort Worth Masonic Temple Association and the library and museum. Other masonic memberships include Ridglea Chapter and Council, Worth Commandery, Moslah Shrine, Eastern Star and Tejas Council AMD. He was life member of Texas Ambulance Association, past president of South Side Lions Club.
