ve Director, appointed in 1991. While managing the chamber he was pivotal in establishing the Ambler Main Street Program, a community effort aimed at revitalization of the downtown Ambler Borough business district. When the Christian cinema was closing it was really George Carey's vision that saved that gem for the community, commented Geoffrey Ries, Executive Vice President of Gessner Products of North Main Street in Ambler, the theatre has been the engine that propelled the rebirth of Ambler. When the WVCC merged with the Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce in Norristown, Carey continued as Vice President of Membership Services. When George volunteered to do something you knew that everything would be taken care of, says Elaine Hubing, Ambler businesswoman and former owner of The Hub. In his past service to the community Carey was a member of the Ambler YMCA board of directors, participated as a mentor in the Future Business Leaders of America program at Upper Dublin High School, and provided a community voice to the Perkins Grant Committee of Montgomery County Community College. Along with his brother John Carey he operated Boiler Erection & Repair Co., formerly of 200 South Main Street in Ambler where he served as president until 1988. Carey was a graduate of Springfield Township High School and the College of Commerce and Engineering at Drexel University where he belonged to the Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He is also a member of the Free and Accepted Masons, the Scottish Rite, Benjamin Franklin Consistory and Lulu Temple Shrine. While in school at Drexel he sang with the Glee Club. His love of music and singing continued throughout his life as both a director and member of several church choirs and more recently with the North Penn Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society where he has also served as chapter president in addition to singing with the chorus.
