Patty Doyle

Julia Patricia "Patty" Doyle, 83, a lifelong Keokuk, Iowa resident left this world after loosing her battle with cancer at 10:55 PM Saturday, May 14, 2011, under the loving care of Lee County Hospice at River Hills Village nursing facility. Patty lived with her parents, Earl Francis Doyle (WW I Veteran) and Julia Sheahan, on Bank Street for over 60 years next to All Saints Parish (St. Peter's Catholic Church) where she had been a member her entire life. She was the only surviving child, born on September 30, 1927 at St. Joseph Hospital in Keokuk. She was preceded in death by a brother, John Francis, and a sister, Mary Patricia, in infancy. After graduation from St. Peter's High School in 1945, Patty went to work for General Mills in the product control lab until 1950. For 32 years she worked as a telephone operator for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company (AT&T) on Blondeau Street in Keokuk and in Ft. Madison from 1950 till the Ma Bell breakup in 1982 when she was forced to retire. She worked at Keokuk Area Hospital as a switchboard operator for two and one-half years and for Rev. ollowed the Fighting Irish (University of Notre Dame), administered the Eucharist to the homebound and fellow parishioners for over 15 years, worked bingo for the benefit of Cardinal Stritch High School students for 12 years, and was a fierce dog supporter and owner of many adorable "mutts". Surviving are immediate family members Patty adopted in love over 23 years ago, Karen and Dusty Taylor; very best buddy and fellow Irishman in heart and soul, Shirley Thompson; her Christian family of St. Peter's and All Saints Parish; the caring, generous souls at River Hills Village; plus many, many dear friends. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at 9:00 am Tuesday, May 17, 2011, at All Saints Parish, 310 South 9th Street, Keokuk, IA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am. Pat requested absolutely NO flowers: memorials may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, FOKAS (Friends of the Keokuk Animal Shelter) and Lee County Hospice.
