Jose "Bato" Garcia

Jose "Bato" Garcia, III, 35, of Keokuk, died at 12:55 AM, Tuesday, June 7, 2011, at Keokuk Area Hospital Jose was born October 29, 1975, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Jose Garcia, Jr. and Patty Grubor. He married Kathryn Happs on May 29, 2010 in Keokuk. She survives. Jose moved from Chicago to Keokuk in 1983. He was employed with Henniges as a production worker. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, reading science fiction, westerns and philosophy books. He loved being with his family and friends and having BBQ's. He enjoyed playing chess; he was the Grade School Champ and Middle School Chess Champ. He enjoyed playing cards. He is survived by his wife, Kathryn Garcia of Keokuk; mother, Patty Grubor of Keokuk; father, Jose Garcia of Orlando, Florida; two step-children, Asia and Xavier Eddleman of Keokuk; four sisters, Vicki (Mike) Brown of Coldwater, Michigan, Sophia Garcia of Keokuk, Rita Garcia and friend Rudy of Florida and Regina (Anthony) Provenzano of Park Ridge, Illinois; one brother, Joseph Buchanan of Orlando, Florida; nieces & nephews, Ashley Marie Brown, CJ Brown & his girlfriend Kelly, Jared Brown, Michael Brown, Cheyenne Duncan, Kenyon Martin and Ava Mart...[more]

great niece, Gracie Clark; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Larry & Donna Happs of Keokuk; three sisters-in-law, Chris Happs of Pea Ridge, Arkansas, Barb & John Aucker of Clarinda, Iowa, Janet & Greg Wardlow of Montrose, Iowa and their children, Ryan Nichols, Maison Nichols, Hayden Grace, Marie Aucker, Cynthia Aucker and Zachery Aucker; three aunts, Tina Moreno, Gloria Rios and Vickie Cobb all of Chicago, Illinois; one uncle, Joe Grubor of Keokuk, and many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his maternal grandmother, Maria "Baba" Grubor. Funeral services will be at 6:00 P.M. Thursday, June 9, 2011 at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street. Cremation will follow. Visitation will be held prior to services beginning at 4:00 pm, Thursday, June 9, 2011, at DeJong-Greaves Celebration of Life Center at 917 Blondeau Street. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
