It is with great sadness that the family of Mary P. Tobin, 72, announces her peaceful passing on the Feast Day of St. Vincent de Paul, Thursday, September 27, 2018. Mary died of pancreatic cancer with family at her side.
She is predeceased by her beloved father Francis Gamble, mother Ethel (O'Brien), and brothers Francis and Thomas. She will be fondly remembered by Peter J., her husband of 52 years, daughter Kristin (Evans), son Peter, son in-law David Evans, daughter in-law Tammy (Schmitt), loving grandchildren William, Kate, Chloe, Julia, brother Kenneth, and sisters Theresa Basralian and Anne Gamble Ordonez.
In addition to raising her children, Mary received her BS in mathematics from Pace University and worked at Bell Laboratories as a computer programmer. Mary's heart for service led her to be the Managing Trustee of the Tobin Family Foundation, work with the St. John's Bread and Life food kitchen, of which she eventually became Board Chair and Director Emeritus, and serve for 7 years as a member of St. John's University Board of Trustees. She received an honorary doctorate in 2000 from St. John's and was made Trustee Emeritus when she left the St. John's Board in 2016....[more]
