A funeral service for Carol will be held Saturday at 10:30 AM at Bethany E. & R. Church, Ledyard with Pastor Colin Andrade officiating. Burial will be in Highland Home Cemetery in Ledyard. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 PM Friday at Bethany E. & R. Church in Ledyard and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Carol Ione Thompson was born October 6, 1934, in Buffalo Center, daughter of Nordahl and Inez (Varland) Skogen. She grew up in Rake graduating from Rake High School in 1952. On March 29, 1953, Carol was united in marriage to Howard M. Thompson in Rake. They farmed north of Bancroft retiring in 1992 and they enjoyed still remaining on the acreage. In earlier years, Carol also worked as a Nursing Assistant at the Buffalo Center Hospital. She enjoyed reading, camping, crafting, playing cards, being on her iPad, and she loved visiting with her many relatives and friends. Following the death of Howard on August 6, 2010, she enjoyed her time spent with other widow friends and her special neighbors. She was a member of Bethany Evangelical and Reformed Church in Ledyard. s survived by two children, Gail Blocker and her husband Joseph of Hartford, SD, and Kevin Thompson and his wife Diana of Fort Dodge; a daughter-in-law, Ginger Thompson of Forest City; six granddaughters, Jennifer Blackmore (Shannon) of Holstein, Amanda Nobles (Matthew) of Holstein, Kara Ruge (Nathan) of Mason City, Holly McMahon (Cody) of Hartford, SD, Kathleen Thompson of Madison, WI, Krista Thompson (Sam Renschen) of Honolulu, HI, two step-granddaughters Kelsae Schossow (David) of Forest City, IA and Jessie Sage of Iowa Falls; 10 great grandchildren, Tyler Wingert, Hanna, Beau, and Sydney Blackmore, Aubrey and Dane Nobles, Mila and Lanie Ruge, and Abigail and Nolan McMahon; and two step-greatgrandchildren, Zackary Jutting and Damon Sage. She is also survived by a brother, Merle (Joni) Skogen of Albert Lea, MN; two sisters-in-law, Carolyn Skogen of Rake and Virjean Skogen of Thompson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Howard; a son, David Thompson on April 20, 2018; three brothers, Don Skogen, Norman Skogen, and Derald Skogen in infancy; and an infant sister, Madele Skogen.
