Mary (Tinsley) Laster

Mrs. Mary Tensler Laster was born April 22,1928 in Troup County, GA to the late Melvin and Willie Mae (Brooks)Brewer. On Sunday, May 9, 2010, she departed this earthly life surrounded by her loved one. At an early age, she confessed Christ and united with the Bethlehem Baptist Church, West Point, GA. Mary was attended Tenth Street High School. Mary was joined into Holy Matrimony to Mr. John Lowery, Sr., who preceded her in death. To this union, one son was born. In later years, she relocated to Miami, FL, where she met and married James Laster and into this union five daughters were born. While residing in Miami, she attended the Antioch Missionary Baptist Church. In later years, she returned to West Point, GA to help care for her mother. Once back home, she reunited with the Bethlehem Baptist Church, where she served faithfully on the Mother's Board and Usher Board for a short period of time. She was fondly called "Granny" by her grandchildren, "Mama" by her children, "Tensler" by her sisters and brothers, "Auntee" by her nieces and nephews. Tensler's memory will forever be engraved in the hearts of her loved ones: a loving son, John Lowery, Jr.; five devoted daughters, Sharon Slaughter (Lucien Pierre), Janet Sue Laster, Dorothy(Gregory)Boyd, Patricia Laster (Charlie Davis), Tensler Laster(Tyrone Smith), all of Miami, FL; seventeen grandchildren, twenty-nine great grandchildren, two sisters, Dorothy Pittman, West Point, GA, Ethel M. White, Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Bennie Brewer, West Point, GA and Melvin(Deborah)Brewer, Indianapolis, IN; one aunt, Margaret Marble, Buffalo, NY, sister-in-law, Mattie Brewer, Detroit, MI; a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins , extended family and friends.
