JAMES L. HEINZ

James L. Heinz, 77, of Gwinn, passed away Tuesday morning, June 19, 2018 at UP Health System- Marquette with his family at his side. Jim was born on May 23, 1941 in Arcadia, Wisconsin, a son of the late Lester and Barbara (Skonieczny) Heinz and was a graduate of Arcadia High School. After high school, Jim entered a vocational school in LaCrosse, Wisconsin for two years and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He served for 20 years in the 87th Fighter Interceptor Squadron, retiring in 1981. He then owned and operated Automotive Hi-Tech in Little Lake for 20 years. Jim was an active member of St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn, Father Pernaski Council #6293, Knights of Columbus, Little Lake American Legion Post #349, the Air Force Association, K.I. Sawyer Heritage Air Museum, and the Forsyth Township Historical Society. alise, Benjamin (Sarah), Andrea, Emma, and Samantha; 3 great grandchildren, Brayden, Adyson, and Garrett; one brother, Richard (Sandra) Heinz of Ettrick, WI; also surviving are several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death besides his parents was four brothers, Robert, William, Charles, and David Heinz. Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 21 from 5-8p.m. in the Baraga Room at St. Anthony Catholic Church in Gwinn. A rosary will be recited at 7:30p.m. followed by a parish prayer service at 8p.m. A second visitation will take place on Friday, June 22nd beginning at 11a.m. with a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 12 noon in the church with Rev. Allen Mott officiating. A luncheon will immediately follow in the church hall. Burial will take place in the Gwinn Cemetery with military honors. Pallbearers will be grandsons, Benjamin Walton, Philip Williamson and Jordan Gauf; also nephews, Michael Heinz, Mark Anderson and Guy Heinz.
