heir first farm in Monmouth in 1964. Doug raised cattle, hogs, corn and beans. Doug was a farmer and an agribusinessman. He and his family owned and operated Caraway Feed and Seed in the 1980's until they began the Scott Produce business in 1985. In 2009, he and Ruth Ann were awarded the AgriBusiness of the year award at the KMAQ Farm Show. Doug was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, the last 13 years at the McCausland Methodist Church. He was a charter member of the Jackson County Pork Producers. During his lifetime he was a member of many organizations including the Farm Bureau, Iowa Honey Producers, River Valley Producers, and the Gideon Society. He also served on the state board of the Iowa Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association and he was a 4-H leader. Doug had many interests in addition to farming. He enjoyed beekeeping, fishing, reading Louis L' Amour books, horseback riding and rodeo and playing cards. He especially enjoyed watching his grandchildren in their sporting and music activities and he loved playing bluegrass music on his guitar and banjo with his family. Doug is survived by his wife Ruth Ann; children, Lee (Janet) Scott of Holland, IA, Mark (Lorna) Scott of Maquoketa and Kay (Mike) Hein of Durant, IA; grandchildren, Mindy Scott, Kelsey Scott, Mallory Scott, Joshua Scott Hein and Zachary Scott Hein; a brother, Tom (Jean) Scott of Lost Nation, IA; and a brother-in-law, Dale (Lovell) Caraway of Maquoketa, IA. In addition, he is survived by nephews Hal, Russ and Vic Scott, Dan and Dave Caraway and nieces, Jeannie and Jill Caraway. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father-in-law, Glenn Caraway and his grandson, Drew Douglas Scott. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, Doug's family is asking for memorial gifts to the Drew Scott Memorial Scholarship Fund, Hospice of Jackson County, or a church or charity of choice.
