MARJORIE J. GLEASON HENDRA

Marjorie J. Gleason Hendra, 75, of Marquette, passed away early Friday morning of natural causes, May 22, 2020 at the Norlite Nursing Center in Marquette. Marge was born on January 27, 1945 in Ishpeming, a daughter of the late Woodrow and Rosemund (Solomon) Gleason. She was a 1963 graduate of Ishpeming High School. In 1962 she was a first runner-up and Miss Congeniality in the Miss Ishpeming Pageant. In 1980 Marge graduated from Northern Michigan University with a teaching degree. She substitute taught in the Marquette Alger School District for many years. She was very active in the Bell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary in the 1980's and served one year as president of the U.P. Hospital Auxiliaries. In addition to her passion for education, Marge's hobbies included cake decorating, sewing, quilting, crafting, and singing. She was an active member of Wesley United Methodist Church in Ishpeming and was involved in their pasty making, the church choir, taught Sunday school, Vacation Bible School, and was the director of their youth choir. Ishpeming; two children, Kristen (Anthony) West of Chatsworth, GA and Jeff Hendra of Scottsdale, AZ; four loving grandchildren, Jael (Austin) Mitchell, Philip (Audrey) Hoff, Alex West and Annah (Ryan) Young; one great grandson, Phenixx King; one brother, Russell (Dianne) Gleason of Jacksonville, FL; one sister-in-law, Nancy Hendra of Green Bay, WI; a brother-in-law, Brad Blight of Ishpeming; also surviving are many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death besides her parents was a sister-in-law, Audrey Blight and brother-in-law, Tom Hendra. The Hendra family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, October 22 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Canale-Tonella Funeral Home and Cremation Services. Visitation will also take place on Friday, October 23, 2020 from 11 a.m. until the time of the memorial service in the funeral home at 12 Noon with the Rev. Donna Lindberg officiating. Burial will take place at Northland Chapel Gardens.
