Marcia Messer

Marcia Messer, 70, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, passed away Sunday, August 27, 2006, at her home. Visitation for Marcia will be held on Tuesday, August 29, 2006, beginning after 3:00 p.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:30 p.m. that evening. A rosary will be recited at 7:30 p.m., following the visitation, at the Memorial Chapel. The funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, August 30, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at the St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with Father Nicholas J. Adam officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Mt. Pleasant Relay for Life. Born July 3, 1936, in Muscatine, IA, Marcia was the daughter of Ernest and Helen Cadogan Ross. She moved with her family to Mt. Pleasant at an early age, and graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1954. Following her graduation, she attended nursing school in Burlington. On July 9, 1955, she married Donald L. Messer at the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Marcia worked for Champion Spark Plug in Burlington for 32 years. She retired in 1991 as an inspector. as a Co-Chair for the Relay for Life. Marcia loved to bowl and golf. She enjoyed spending time with her family and also looked forward to the times spent at the lake house in Branson, MO. She will be missed by all who knew her. Along with her husband, Don, Marcia is survived by one son Doug and his wife Dee of Kodak, TN., one daughter Coree and her husband Donald Eland of Mt. Pleasant, IA.; two grandchildren, Jeremy Eland and Randee Eland both of Mt. Pleasant; her mother, Helen Fedora of Mt. Pleasant; one brother, Ed Ross of El Paso, TX.; and two nephews, Rob Ross of Knoxville, TN. and Ryan Ross of El Paso, TX. Marcia was preceded in death by her father. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to Mt. Pleasant Relay for Life.
