Billy F. Beck, age 84 of Fairmount, passed away on June 14, 2014 at Community Hospital North, Indianapolis.Billy was born in Van Buren, Indiana on September 11, 1929 to the late William F. Beck and the late Charlene McCracken.Living in Fairmount most of his life, Bill graduated from Fairmount High School in 1947.Shortly thereafter he married the love of his life, Roma Dickerson who survives, on May 21, 1948 in Fowlerton.He served in the U.S. Navy Reserves for four years and retired as a supervisor from General Motors in 1988 after twenty-nine years of service.He was a Palomino horse enthusiast and also enjoyed pitching horse shoes.Always active in his community, Bill started the first Little League team in Fairmount, the Fairmount News Team.He was also the owner of Main Street Merchandise and he and his wife enjoyed collecting antiques.Bill enjoyed hunting with his coon hounds and loved sports, especially basketball and baseball. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law Jack Skinner. Arrangements are being entrusted to the Fairmount Chapel of Armes-Hunt Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 415 S. Main St., Fairmount, IN 46928.Family and friends may visit the family at the Fairmount Chapel on Wednesday, June 18 from 4:00-8:00 p.m.The funeral service will be at the Fairmount Chapel on Thursday, June 19 at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Ella Nickles officiating.Committal service and interment will be immediately following at Park Cemetery, Fairmount.
