Upland: Thomas R. Banter, 75, died Thursday evening, April 30, 2015, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Indianapolis, surrounded by family. He was born in Wells County, the son of the late Robert and Helen (Howard) Banter Todd. In 1957, he graduated from Jefferson Township High School. On January 25, 1959, Tom married Nancy Cole, in Matthews. She survives. He worked for AEP as a Meter Supervisor for 41 years. He was active in scouting for 47 years, including Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and the Sagamore Council, servings as Pack Leader, Scout Leader, Troop Committee Chairman, Order of the Arrow, Eagle Scout Mentor, and the proud grandfather of two Eagle Scouts. He had the privilege of attending Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico, sharing the joy of the experience with his sons and grandsons. Tom, having lived in Monroe Township most of his life, was also a long time member of the Upland Lions Club, where he had formerly served as President. He was a life-long member of Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, where he served in many ways and was acting chairman of the Board of Trustees. In addition to his wife of 56 years, Nancy Banter, survivors include his children, Joyce (Jimmy) Davis, Matthews, Rex (Nancy) Banter, Upland, Karen Banter, Noblesville, and Garry (Paige) Banter, Jacksonville, Illinois; grandchildren, Crystal Davis, Ashley (Tyler) Cabanaw, Heather Banter, Candy (Billy) Ewart, Thomas Banter, and Bradley Banter; and a great grandson, Greyson Cabanaw; siblings, Harry (Cheryl) Banter, Marion, Mary Helen (Tom) Warner, Swayzee, and John (Evelyn) Todd, Upland; an aunt Jo Banter, Warren; and two uncles, Dick (Peggie) Howard, and Herb (Geri) Howard, both of Upland. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant sister, Delores. Memorials may be made to Oak Chapel United Methodist Church, 1335 S.
