Funeral Home: Hansen Mortuaries
On July 31st, 2020, Matthew Perez left us here on earth to start a new adventure. He was born in Apple Valley, California on August 25th, 1978. He moved with his family to Phoenix, Arizona in 1979, where he graduated from North Canyon High School in 1996. From the very beginning, Matt was extremely smart. He loved comics and video games before they were mainstream, and could always be seen in a bookstore learning something new. Matt also loved music from a very young age and played multiple instruments, from the saxophone to the trombone to the baritone. Matt spent his high school summers traveling all around the country in the drum corps, playing music in lots of different cities and competing against other bands. He always loved computers and technology as well, and would be the master of any and all tech questions anyone might have. But even with all of this, one of Matt's best qualities was knowing how to help people at just the right moment. He had the ability to listen deeply so he could help someone through their pain. ople laugh. Whether he was being silly or sarcastic, he always seemed to know what would be best to help someone else feel better. A few years after high school, Matt moved to Santa Barbara, California to start a new life he absolutely loved. He made lots of new friends, and found a city where he knew he belonged. He learned how to edit video, and worked editing commercials. He loved to go out with his friends and have a good drink, and he could always be found watching, talking about, and helping to create films. He gave the greatest bear hugs, and could talk all night about all sorts of interesting subjects. Music and books were still a big part of his life, and he spent a lot of time reading and listening to different types of music. He continued his love of learning and always knew about many different things before everyone else. When Matt was sick, for three years there was an ever abundant outpouring of visits and love sent to him from friends, colleagues, and family. All the love he shared with people over his life was sent right back to him, and for that, his entire family will be forever grateful. Matt was an amazing son, brother, and uncle, and will be incredibly missed by his parents, Gloria and Evaristo Perez, his brother Everette and sister-in-law Sheri, and his sister Katherine and her fiancé, Rene. He will forever be loved by his nieces Mia, Sophia, Felicity, and Viviana, as well by his nephews, Xavier, Luke and Romeo. He will be remembered lovingly by his aunts, uncles, and cousins and will NEVER be forgotten by all his amazing friends from all over the world. We all love you Matt. God bless you, and may you rest easy until we meet again. A Rosary will be held for Matthew on Monday, August 17th at 6:00pm at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary, 6500 E. Bell Rd., Scottsdale, AZ 85024. A funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, August 18th at 11:00am at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 3801 E Greenway Rd., Phoenix, AZ 85032. Due to Covid restrictions, a private burial will be held after Mass at Holy Redeemer Catholic Cemetery, 23015 Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024.
