Charles Daniel Manrique

Charles Daniel "Dan" Manrique, age 71, went home to be with the Lord on August 8, 2020 in Ocala, Florida. Dan was born in Tampa, Florida on 8/17/1948 to parents Charles Y. and Mildred A. Manrique. He was a Sheriff's Deputy with the Hernando County Sheriff's Department before earning a Bachelor's Degree in nursing. Dan worked as a respiratory therapist and held several nursing positions, including surgical nurse in the cardiac cath lab, before accepting a job in the infirmary at the Marion County Jail in 2007, where he worked until his passing. Dan was also a published author. His novel "A Soldier of the Second Civil War" was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize in fiction in 2005. He lived a life that exemplified caring, duty to family, toughness, overcoming adversity, and dependability. In doing so, Dan left a legacy for all that knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his unconditional love, inner strength, commitment to family, sense of humor, and the raising of his sons. Dan left a mark on every person he knew. ons and siblings will be remembered and honored throughout their lives. Dan is loved and will be missed by many. He was preceded in death by his Father, Charles Y. Manrique and Mother, Mildred A. Manrique. Dan is survived by Wife, Elizabeth Manrique; Sons, Daniel W. Manrique, Matthew A. Manrique, and Wilfred A. Manrique; Grandchildren, Austin W. Manrique, Kyle A. Manrique, and Karlie A. Manrique; Brother, Richard A. Manrique; and Sister, Celia M Sullivan. The family will be holding a private ceremony of remembrance at a family gravesite where his parents' remains are buried. Contributions in honor of his memory may be made to Hospice of Ocala, Marion County Sheriff's Department, or the remarkable nursing staff at West Marion Community Hospital.
