Marcia Lankford Gilley
Our precious Mother, Marcia Lankford Gilley, passed away Thursday August 20th, 2020 in Orlando Florida. She was born in Orlando March 5th 1945, the only child of Scott and Elizabeth Lankford. Growing up in Orlando, Marcia graduated from Boone High School in 1963. Shortly after graduating she got a job as a telephone operator with Southern Bell. One of Marcia's hobbies was horseback riding. With Orlando being a much smaller city in the early and mid 60's she often rode her horse around the dirt back roads of south Orlando off of Orange Blossom Trail north of Holden Ave. One particular day she rode over to a small airport that wasn't far from her house, and it just so happened a man at the airport who had an airplane based there struck up a conversation with the young lady on horseback. A ride in his airplane later ensued, which led to a first date, then not many months later a marriage proposal. On May 5, 1965 she married the love of her life, Calvin Coolidge Gilley, at Holden Heights Methodist Church. A loving mother to her two sons Calvin and David, and a devoted wife, Marcia was also a member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. She enjoyed weekend trips to New Smyrna Beach, vacations to North Carolina to visit family, collecting knick knacks from all her travels, and gardening. After Dad retired they enjoyed traveling throughout the Southeast, visiting Jekyll Island, Panama City, and many other destinations. Mom was preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 42 years, Calvin Coolidge Gilley. They are reunited once again. She is survived by her two sons, Calvin and David (Marianne).
