Rebekah Whelchel

Mrs. Rebekah L. Thompson Whelchel was born February 10, 1934, to the late Robert G & Carrie (Burdell) Thompson. She departed this life on Thursday, August 6, 2020, at North East Georgia Medical Center. Rebekah was a member of the Hickory Grove CME Church. She served as First Lady at several churches during her husband's 45-year pastoral journey. She was a retired nurse with Dr. Johnson & Valentine. She retired from the Gainesville City School System where she served as a special needs paraprofessional. Rebekah was a devoted, wife, mother, and grandmother. Rebekah was preceded in death by her husband of 72 years (Reveard W.L. Whelchel, sisters Mamie Johnson, Barbara Brown, Martha Camp, and Betty Hendrix. Rebekah, the "heartbeat" of her family leaves to mourn her passing two loving sons Eugene Whelchel (Lena), Tony Whelchel (Bettye), and one loving daughter Michele Williams (Lloyd), 9 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren; one adopted son, Mr. Anthony (Chip) Footman of Valdosta, Georgia; one adopted daughter, Ms. Doris Moss of Atlanta, GA To read the full obituary, please click here: [more]
