In 1955 at the tender age of 17, she met and married the young debonair Sherwood Ellis, Sr. On September 3, 2020 this union celebrated 65 years of marriage and bore 4 children, Doris, Ray, Sharon, and Sherwood, Jr. Sherwood, Sr. provided Gracie with a life of love, security, and a solid foundation of Christian living. In 1959, the young couple ventured to Omaha, Nebraska following her older brother, Thom in search of a better life for their two young children. In addition to making a change in location, Gracie decided to legally change her middle name to "Mae". Gracie accepted Jesus Christ at a young age and the Ellis family became members of the Mt. he was a loving mother and grandmother to her family. In fact, Gracie was called upon to provide child care to a number of children including several grandchildren and responsible for many of them being potty trained in a matter of days. She enjoyed shopping with her dear sister/friend Earlene Philmon. Her life is exemplified by Proverbs 31: 10-31 as a virtuous woman. Gracie was proceeded in death by her parents, Tom and Rosie Allen; siblings, Louise Johnson, Thom Allen, John Allen, and LeAnna Sandifer. She leaves to mourn, her loving husband, Sherwood; her devoted children, Doris (Henry) Moore, Ray (Brenda) Ellis, Sharon Ellis, and Sherwood Jr. (Michele) Ellis all of Omaha; brother, Elsa R. Allen (Omaha) and sister, Mildred Sandifer (Wesson, MS). The legacy continues with her Grandchildren: Justin (Atlanta), Ashley (Omaha), Shayla (Omaha), Tiffany (Dupree) (Omaha), Aaron (Kansas City), and Alisa (Omaha) and Great-grandchildren: DaVaughn, LaNae, Derico, LeiAna, and Vincent all of Omaha and a host of other relatives and friends.
